The Sonic Mini range is characterized by focusing on the essentials - print quality. If this is your main criterion, the Sonic Mini 8K S is perfect for you. An XY resolution of only 22 μm is a dream for those who want to print objects with small details. For injection molding-like surface detail with no visible steps, an XY resolution of 22 μm with a minimum layer height of 0.01 mm is ideal.
This high accuracy is based on the fact that the built-in LCD display has a resolution of 7500 × 3273 pixels at only 165 × 72 mm. Converting pixels to LCD display size results in a tiny pixel size in the XY direction of 22 μm. In fact, with resin 3D printers, it's not just the resolution that matters, but also the actual size of the display. Even if you see a huge 12K resin 3D printer, its accuracy may still be worse than the Mini 8K S.
Another important factor for accuracy is the minimum layer height that can be achieved. Sonic Mini 8K S achieves a minimum layer height of up to 0.01 mm. The degrees that arise are almost invisible to the human eye, if at all. When you set a slight edge smoothing in the slicer, the surface becomes so smooth that the steps are not visible even with a magnifying glass.
The biggest disadvantage of the Mini 8K S is, of course, its small print volume. Depending on what you plan to use the resin 3D printer for, this may have the biggest impact on your purchasing decision. If you only want to print small miniatures with maximum precision, the Mini 8K S is ideal. If you want to print 20 miniatures at once or a large miniature in one piece, you should look for a larger 3D printer. By the way, the print volume of the Mini 8K S is almost exactly two liters. This can give you a better idea of the size of objects you can print with the Mini 8K S.
